In my last post, i listed On-page SEO technique as one of the method you can adopt to increase the Domain Authority of your blog, which is quite true. In this post, i am going to show you practical tutorials on how you will be optimizing each of your blog post before hitting the "publish" button. If you maintain this White hat SEO method, in no distance time you will start seeing improvements of your posts in SERPs. It is also advisable to include Off-page SEO techniques such as link building, for better performance.
We are already in 2017, where the battle for ranking high in SERPs gets tougher, as a result of the introduction of the Google's mobile-first indexing system. Google made it known that you should not only optimize your pages for desktop users, but rather you should place the mobile users on higher priority. In other words, you should be optimizing your pages for mobile users as well, by placing page loading speed and some other factors into consideration.
Having all these in mind, now let us now move to the business of the day. Read on!
One of the important On-page factor which plays a big role in deciding if your blog posts will perform better on search engines is its post title. Try as much as possible to optimize it. First of all, you should make sure you include your targeted keywords or phrase in it, most preferably towards the beginning of Title tag. You should desist from the habit of repeating the same keyword in title tag with the intension of getting search engine preference from Google, Yahoo and Bing. This act is known as keyword stuffing and could be penalized by Google. Lastly, try and limit the characters of your post tile to 65, including alphabets and spaces.
If you check this post you are reading now, you will discover it is made up of just 56 characters, with alphabets and spaces inclusive.
From default, the automatic permalink structure of Blogger uses the first few words of your post title. Most at times if you check, you will discover that your targeted keywords might not be included in it (especially if they are not found at the beginning of the post title), this will have a negative effect on your post SEO. To fix this, you have to click at the "Custom permalink" segment, and add a preferred permalink and make sure it contains your targeted keyword. You should also avoid using special characters like; brackets, comma, symbols etc.
You should use heading tags like h2, h3 and h4 etc to highlight various headings, sub-headings and important points. From the default settings in Blogger, your blog title is already assigned the h1 tag and your post title is h2. So you can use the h3, h4 tags as headings and sub-headings for other vital points inside your post. But you should avoid the mistake of repeating them too many times in a particular post.
You should try and maintain the keyword density of each of your post to be at most 1.5%, with a mix of LSI keywords. My next post is going to give more insight on the importance of LSI keywords in SEO, so watch for it.
You should always include your main keyword once in first paragraph and then also in the last paragraph apart from the regular inclusion in your blog post content. You should use bold, italic and underline to highlight important keywords and phrases in your blog post. You can see a practical example of this in almost all of my blog post.
This is also important. Always add unique and relevant meta keyword and meta description to each of your blog post. Most importantly, you should use your targeted keyword in the meta description section. The meta description tag works as a summary for your blog post, because it tells the search engine bots what your page is all about
The meta description length should be limited to 160 characters, including spaces. You should also try to write user-friendly meta descriptions, because it gives better CTR (Click through rate) from search engines.
It is very difficult for blog post having few words to perform optimally in search engines. This is because, it is believed it might not really contain what a user is searching for. So to be on a safer side, always write unique and well researched blog post having minimum of 800 words. It can be more, depending on the topic you are writing about. There are some blog post that contains up to 4,000 words, so you can imagine how difficult it will be to outrank such post in SERPs if yours is quite smaller.
You should interlink related blog posts within your blog to send additional page rank and traffic to them. Interlinking of blog posts naturally reduces bounce rate because it will make your blog readers spend more time on your blog. But you should not overdo it. When performing this task, you should use keyword rich anchor text as that will help the linking posts perform better on Google and other search engines for their targeted anchor texts.
I have been laying emphasis on this point in almost all of my blog post. Yes! writing unique content is key and it is a perfect On-Page SEO technique. You should write engaging content and also try to include your targeted keyword in it. You can adopt various means to get your audience glued your blog post, because this will send a positive signal to Google. They will believe your blog page is relevant to the searched keyword, so in return it will elevate your page position in SERPs.
You should look at various ways so that people get engaged with your blog contents. You can do this by asking some kind of questions or asking for their opinion on topics related to your blog and etc. If you are unable to write engaging contents on your blog, people will not spend much time on your blog and will immediately leave your blog. This will result in higher bounce rate for your blog and which will work as a negative factor when Google calculates your blog rankings for targeted terms.
While you are utilizing all these On-page SEO techniques, one major thing you should place in mind is the optimization of your site for mobile users. Make your site responsive and mobile-friendly because that is the recent trend now. Mobile-first indexing have taken over.
